ABSTRACT

This talk will discuss the original proof of the source coding theorem with side information at the receiver. In the case of one transmitter and one receiver, if the side information is known to both the transmitter and receiver, a much simpler encoding-decoding strategy is available. In the case of broadcasting to several receivers, each of which has different side information, it is not clear how to simplify the encoding-decoding process when the side information is known to the transmitter.
