ABSTRACT

The presented work includes an investigation of detection methods for amplify-and forward cooperative relaying in Rayleigh fading channels, assuming no knowledge of Channel State Information (CSI) is available at the receiver. We derive two noncoherent detection algorithms for multichannel receivers using the Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT) procedure. When the noise variance is known at the receiver, the GLRT-based detector chooses the signal that minimizes the weighed sum of squared errors (MWSE); otherwise, the detector chooses the signal that minimizes the weighed product of squared errors (MPSE). Detection performance is evaluated for Constant Amplification (CA) and Constant Power (CP) amplify-and-forward schemes. It is shown that good performance is achieved by the use of CP with MPSE when the SNR is high and that the proposed algorithm is robust to the location of the relay nodes.
