ABSTRACT

In this work, we consider the network lifetime maximization problem in a setting where channel fading is present. In order to combat with channel fading, we implement cooperative diversity among the nodes. We devise a new energy consumption model, when the transmitter side diversity (vMISO) is employed. According to this energy consumption model, we formulate the network lifetime maximization with vMISO routing as a nonlinear program. We next develop a novel cooperation set selection and routing heuristic that can significantly increase the network lifetime compared to SISO systems. Our results indicate that by implementing our vMISO routing algorithm the network lifetime can be increased over 80% compared to SISO routing.
